This is where I slip into third person and put on my big show off’s voice. Here goes…
Iain Broome grew up in one of a small cluster of towns in Derbyshire – the sort you only hear about when someone goes on Countdown. He is 27 years old and has lived in Sheffield for eight years.
By day, Iain works as a copywriter for theWorkshop, an award-winning design and e-learning company. By night, he writes fiction and has recently completed his first novel, A is for Angelica, as part of Sheffield Hallam’s acclaimed MA Writing course.
In July 2006, Iain received a commendation from the New Writing Partnership for ‘B is for Benny and Birthdays’, a chapter from A is for Angelica. In 2005, the same chapter was published in Matter 5, the MA’s flagship literary publication. In 2004, his short story, The Cowboy, was published in Matter 3.
In 2006, Iain edited Matter 6, which featured guest authors including Jackie Kay, Marina Lewycka and David Constantine.
Iain has performed across the country, including at the Guardian Hay Literature Festival (2004) and the Oxford Literary Festival (2007). He is co-founder of Words Aloud, a successful Sheffield-based open-mic night for creative writing.
Iain is currently working on a second novel and a short script.
