Today I officially launch a new podcast called Very Meta. Hosted on the excellent SoundCloud, it’s a behind the scenes look at being a working writer, and my take on a range of subjects, including reading, writing, web culture and technology.

It’s also a bit like keeping an audio diary. In public.

Here’s episode seven, where I talk about some of the reasons I’m a writer, and the stories that influenced me when I was growing up. It’s not all about books, you may be surprised to here.

If you’re one of the 50 or so lucky people who subscribed to Chat Broome, my first attempt at this kind of thing, you’ll have a good idea of what to expect. If not, the episodes are usually short (3-7 minutes), breezy affairs that tackle a specific idea or topic.

I also have plans to use Very Meta to publish longer pieces, including a series on plain English and a range of exciting interviews. Where the Write for Your Life podcast has a regular time slot structure, Very Meta will be a veritable chocolate box of audio content.

I think you’ll like it, so here’s what you need to do next:

This is all a bit new so feel free to send me feedback. If there’s something you’d specifically like me to talk about, just get in touch and I’ll see what I can do.
